DARLING CELLARS SIX TONNER MERLOT 2003
When a winemaker talks about vineyard practice, he or she usually makes some form of reference to yield. Yield is a pivotal factor which determines a wine's concentraion and this one is of no exception. These merlot grapes from dry land bushvines were cropped at a low 6 tons per hectare (36hl/ha).
The warm sunny days of the Darling ward, are moderated by the influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, creating a long growing season. The wine was aged in 3rd and 4th fill oak for 10 months adding to but not overpowering the delicate fruit flavours.
Soft, fruity wine with delicate ripe plum flavours both on the nose and palate. Lightly oaked, this wine has a wonderfully appealing balance between fruit and wood.
